Understanding Jaw Surgery Supported Orthodontics
Dr. Robert Berger, an expert board-certified orthodontist, can provide jaw surgery supported
orthodontic treatment with either braces or Invisalign. This involves a pre-surgical orthodontic
setup where the teeth are aligned for approximately 12 months using either braces or
Invisalign. This pre-surgical setup is very similar to standard orthodontic treatment in that it
straightens the teeth. However, the key difference is that, while straightening your teeth, Dr.
Berger also strategically adjusts the bite to allow the surgeon to perfectly align both jaws
during the surgery. The jaw surgery is performed with either a full set of braces or active
Invisalign aligners at a hospital with a trained oral surgeon. Following the surgery, patients
typically require 6 to 12 months of additional orthodontic treatment to refine the smile and
artistry of the teeth. On average, jaw surgery supported orthodontic treatment takes around
20 to 24 months.
